Brown will appear as a reporter alongside Peter Bergman (Jack), Gina Tognoni (Phyllis) and Jason Thompson (Billy) in the episode scheduled to air on April 4.

Brown told TV Line, "The people at CBS found out that I’m a freakin’ fangirl. And they were like, ‘Do you want to go to Genoa City?’ And I’m like, ‘Um, yeah.’ It was probably one of the most exciting calls I have ever received. The only thing that could equal it is if I were to get a call to be on Sesame Street.”

Why Are There Two Jack Abbotts on 'The Young and the Restless'?

Two Jack Abbotts: Fake Jack and Real Jack
On Tuesday's episode of The Young and the Restless, it was revealed that Kelly Andrews (Cady McClain) was alive and holding Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) hostage. But how is that possible when viewers spent the hour watching Jack marry Phyllis Newman (Gina Tognoni)? It looks like there are two Jacks now and the one that married Phyllis is an imposter.

But when did Fake Jake take over Real Jack's life? Was Fake Jack the one who had sex with Kelly at the Underground before it collapsed? Fake Jake definitely was the hacker at Jabot, and Billy (Burgess Jenkins) has video evidence. How long has Real Jack been held captive? What does Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) have to do with all this? Is Fake Jake the person meeting Victor in the confessional booth?

Peter Bergman Debuted as Jack Abbott on 'The Young and the Restless' 25 Years Ago Today

Peter Bergman was recently celebrated on the set of Y&R for his 25 years as Jack Abbott.
Three-time Daytime Emmy winner Peter Bergman made his first appearance as Jack Abbott on CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless on November 27, 1989.

Bergman's first day on the Y&R set was "daunting and kind of lonely, frankly," he said in a recent TV Guide Magazine interview. "I got along with everybody but — coming from All My Children where everyone was a tight family, talking, connecting, running lines with each other — it took me a while to adjust to things at Y&R. I felt I was a one-man army against the establishment. Everybody was off in their fabulous Hollywood dressing rooms — well, fabulous by New York standards — and I felt kind of isolated, alone in it all."

"Every prop guy and lighting technician knew more about my character than I did and let me know it," Bergman added, with a laugh. Jess Walton [Jill] was "simply wonderful from the moment I met her and such a character! Jerry Douglas [John] was a larger-than-life guy whose hairpiece was flipping all over the place. And he was very comfortable without his shirt on. That first day he pulled me into his dressing room to tell me all about the importance of the Jack-John relationship and I'm, like, 'I don't even know your name yet and you don't have any clothes on.' It was absolutely insane."

Watch Bergman's 1989 debut below as well as a recent onset celebration which included kind words from fellow cast members Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) and Jerry Douglas (ex-John Abbott), as well as executive producer Jill Farren Phelps.

Joan Rivers: Revisiting Her Soap Opera Past

Susan Lucci and Joan Rivers
Legendary entertainer Joan Rivers, a pioneering female stand-up comic and the queen of "Can We Talk?" gossip, has died, her daughter, Melissa Rivers, said Thursday. She was 81.

Rivers was undergoing surgery on her vocal cords at a clinic in New York City on Aug. 28 when she stopped breathing and had to be transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. Melissa Rivers and Joan Rivers' 13-year-old grandson, Cooper, who live in Malibu, California, rushed to her bedside.

"My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh," Melissa Rivers said in a statement. "Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

The beloved comedian had soap opera past. John Gabriel, who played Seneca Beaulac on Ryan's Hope for more than a decade, was once the opening act for her nightclub routine. She hosted VCR game "Predicaments" in 1986; appeared on NBC daytime drama Another World as Grant Harrison's (Mark Pinter) public relations expert Meredith Dunston in 1997; introduced a segment (with Melissa) on mothers and daughters at the 10th Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1994; featured an all-star panel of stars on a 1993 episode of her talk show; and guest-starred as herself in a 1999 episode of All My Children opposite Susan Lucci and Vincent Irizarry.

Gina Tognoni Debuts as the New Phyllis Newman on 'The Young and the Restless'; Can Daytime's Top-Rated Soap Regain Its Magic?

Near the end of the Monday, August 14 episode of The Young and the Restless, Jack Abbott (Three-time Emmy winner Peter Bergman) arrived in Georgia to visit his fiance Phyllis Summers Newman. Well, they were engaged a year ago when Phyllis tumbled down a flight of stairs and went into a coma, and before he fell in love with Kelly Andrews (Two-time Emmy winner Cady McClain). But a lot has changed over the past 12 months, and he's come to tell his comatose love that he's moving on. This wasn't the same Phyllis that left Y&R after a reunion with Jack; Michelle Stafford has moved on to General Hospital, where she's giving a fascinating performance as Nina Clay (coincidentally another character that recently came out of a coma). As Jack settled in next to the woman he has loved on and off for years, viewers heard the voice of Jessica Collins (Avery) say in that old school soap opera way, "The role of Phyllis Newman is now being played by Gina Tognoni," and saw her face. The two-time Emmy Award-winning Tognoni had finally made her first appearance on daytime's top-rated drama.

Just before Jack took Phyllis' hand, he said, "It's good to see you, Red."

Yes, it was!

The Young and the Restless executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, Peter Bergman (who plays Jack Abbott) and Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Newman) recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the rise in soap opera viewership this past year. Soaps are up 15% which bodes well for the industry.

Bergman says, "Yes, we've reduced the number of soaps, but there are still enough people who think, 'That's my kind of entertainment; let's see what's left.'
