'The Young and the Restless' Star Eric Braeden on Victor and Nikki: 'Victor Should Dismiss Nikki. It's Over. Done!"

Eric Braeden
Michael Logan from TV Insider recently spoke with The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden about all of the turmoil in the life of Victor Newman. Victor is going to be charged with kidnapping and fraud, and his wife and children will testify against him in court!

How does Braeden feel about the current state of Victor and Nikki's (Melody Thomas Scott) marriage? According to the actor, "As far as I’m concerned, Victor should dismiss Nikki. It’s over. Done! Are you kidding me? She is persona non grata. I would never tolerate a wife who spoke out against me, and neither should he. The same with his children. He should disown them. Bingo! Bye! This is where the writers and I have had disagreements. They have their agenda. But I remember Victor’s history. When I see a script where Victor starts to soften with someone who has done him wrong, I say, “Bulls--t! I won’t act this!”

'The Young and the Restless' Sneak Peek: Victor Stabs Phyllis With a Needle

Dylan plans on taking care of Joe.  Will Joe end up dead?
In a new promo for CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, Victor (Eric Braeden) picks up a needle and stabs Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) in a scene so silly and over the top it must be someone's dream or hallucination. Y&R has been guilty on multiple occasions lately of airing an over-the-top or super-sexy promo only to have it turn out to be a dream or fantasy sequence. In this case, that would be better than the scene actually taking place.

It has been years since the writers at Y&R have really understood what makes Victor Newman tick, instead portraying him as a supervillain a la James Stenbeck (As the World Turns) or Stefano DiMera (Days of our Lives). In the upcoming scene, Victor is in Helena Cassadine (General Hospital) territory.

"Maybe it's a good idea if you went back into a coma," Victor tells Phyllis in the promo before grabbing a needle to thrust into her hand as she lets out her trademark scream. That's when she'll wake up or snap out of it, right? This can't possibly actually take place.

Watch a sneak peek below and let us know if you think this is a dream.

Peter Bergman Debuted as Jack Abbott on 'The Young and the Restless' 25 Years Ago Today

Peter Bergman was recently celebrated on the set of Y&R for his 25 years as Jack Abbott.
Three-time Daytime Emmy winner Peter Bergman made his first appearance as Jack Abbott on CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless on November 27, 1989.

Bergman's first day on the Y&R set was "daunting and kind of lonely, frankly," he said in a recent TV Guide Magazine interview. "I got along with everybody but — coming from All My Children where everyone was a tight family, talking, connecting, running lines with each other — it took me a while to adjust to things at Y&R. I felt I was a one-man army against the establishment. Everybody was off in their fabulous Hollywood dressing rooms — well, fabulous by New York standards — and I felt kind of isolated, alone in it all."

"Every prop guy and lighting technician knew more about my character than I did and let me know it," Bergman added, with a laugh. Jess Walton [Jill] was "simply wonderful from the moment I met her and such a character! Jerry Douglas [John] was a larger-than-life guy whose hairpiece was flipping all over the place. And he was very comfortable without his shirt on. That first day he pulled me into his dressing room to tell me all about the importance of the Jack-John relationship and I'm, like, 'I don't even know your name yet and you don't have any clothes on.' It was absolutely insane."

Watch Bergman's 1989 debut below as well as a recent onset celebration which included kind words from fellow cast members Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) and Jerry Douglas (ex-John Abbott), as well as executive producer Jill Farren Phelps.

'The Young and the Restless' Star Eric Braeden Visits 'AfterBuzz TV' (Video)

Eric Braeden has played Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless since 1980.
On Monday, October 27, Daytime Emmy Award and People's Choice Award winner Eric Braeden (Victor Newman on CBS' The Young and the Restless) stopped by Maria Menounos' online broadcast network, AfterBuzz TV, to talk with host Yael Tygiel about his career, the future of "Nictor" and the importance of healing the reputation of Germans.

Best known for his performance on a top rated soap opera for over 34 years, it's surprising to hear Braeden express that he did not initially intend on sticking.

"I thought I was going to do it for three months," he explained. "I couldn’t stand the medium. It was too fast. It was too – it was simply too fast."

Braeden goes on to add, "They introduced one storyline that I liked very much, when they explained why Victor Newman was who he was, he had grown up in an orphanage, and that explained his character. And I knew then that I could tap into something deeply emotional. The moment I played that scene with Nikki.. when she asked about my background...when I finished that scene I said, 'Now I'm gonna stay.'"

'Saturday Night Live' Uses Old Soap Photos on 'Forgotten TV Gems' Set

On last weekend's episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC, Keanan Thompson hosted a sketch titled "Forgotten TV Gems" whose set used several photos from classic daytime soap operas. The forgotten gem was a faux classic TV show called "Supportive Women," starring characters played by Cecily Strong and Sarah Silverman. While the photos used had nothing to do with the sketch, it was cool to see the faces of Laura and Luke Spencer (Genie Francis and Anthony Geary, General Hospital), Brooke English and Erica Kane (Julia Barr and Susan Lucci, All My Children), Victor Newman (Eric Braeden, The Young and the Restless), Hope and Bo Brady (Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell, Days of our Lives), Margo and Tom Hughes (Margaret Colin and Justin Deas, As the World Turns), Alan Spaulding and Mike Bauer (Christopher Bernau and Don Stewart, Guiding Light), the Capwells from Santa Barbara and more.
