Can the Character of Hope be Saved on 'Days of our Lives'?

Today on the June 8, 2016 episode of Days of our Lives, Hope (Kristian Alfonso) spends time at the Horton Cabin so she can sort out her feelings for Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), and Aiden Jennings (Daniel Cosgrove). This episode will focus entirely on Hope.

As Hope struggles to make this important decision, she is visited by the ghosts of her late husband Bo Brady (Peter Reckell), her first husband Larry Welch (Andrew Masset), Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo), and by her now grown son Zack (Scott Shilstone).

Alfonso tells Soap Opera Digest, "I think the decision that Hope makes as she's leaving the cabin is not really the decision that everyone thinks it's going to be. She may hurt a couple of people in the process, but she needs to get to the bottom of what, or who, Aiden really is. It may appear to the audience that Hope is totally confused in her thought process, but things that transpire, and the decision that she makes along the way, are not always what they appear to be."

It will be nice to see Bo and Hope interacting again, but I can't help but think this entire episode makes Hope seem incredibly shallow. Instead of obsessing over her love life, she needs to be focusing on her daughter Ciara (Vivian Jovanni). Her daughter was recently raped, and has now developed an unhealthy attachment to the married Chad (Billy Flynn).

Can the character of Hope be saved? Only if she drops both men, and finally starts focusing on her family. Unfortunately, I don't think this will be happening anytime soon.

'Days of our Lives' May 31 Sneak Peek: Abigail Devastates Chad

Tomorrow on the May 31, 2016 episode of Days of our Lives, Chad (Billy Flynn) is upset after Abigail (Kate Mansi) refuses to see him again. How much more can he take?

Meanwhile, Hope (Kristian Alfonso) comforts a distraught Aiden (Daniel Cosgrove), while Adriana (Alma Delfina) makes a mysterious phone call, summoning someone to town. Could this be the mysterious Blanca (Ximena Duque)?

'Days of our Lives' Preview: How did Aiden Survive?

This week on Days of our Lives, Hope (Kristian Alfonso) is stunned when she sees her presumed dead husband, Aiden Jennings (Daniel Cosgrove). How did Aiden survive?

Daniel Cosgrove tells Soap Opera Digest, "He has a lot of explaining to do and he wants an opportunity to do that. He's taken to the police station and doesn't want to talk to anybody but Hope. Aiden wants to connect with Hope as soon as he can and explain everything. She saw Aiden zipped up and put into a body bag, so he understands that there is a lot of craziness associated with his return."

The May 9 episode of DAYS, focuses solely on what happened the night Bo (Peter Reckell) supposedly killed Aiden. Aiden recalls that on his wedding night, he couldn't go through with killing Hope. When Aiden tried to leave Hope's house, he came face to face with his double. As Aiden tried to process what was happening, Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) arrived on the scene and ordered the impostor to murder Hope. Aiden was knocked out and later awakened to find himself in a cage.

At the police station, Aiden gets a chance tell his story to Hope. Aiden insists that it was an impostor who tried to murder her while he was held captive in a cell by Stefano and Andre. Aiden also reveals that prior to being kidnapped, he had been secretly working with Stefano.

"Aiden wants to come clean with Hope and be completely honest," says Cosgrove. "He tries to clarify anything that confuses Hope. Aiden's biggest wish is that he wakes up from this nightmare and gets back to where he was with Hope."

However, it may not be that easy. Hope still believes he is an impostor, and things get even stranger. Roman (Josh Taylor) and Rafe (Galen Gering) are told that Aiden's fingerprints have vanished from the file and therefore cannot be compared to the man claiming to be Aiden.

Daniel Cosgrove Talks 'Days of our Lives' Return

In the May 16, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Daniel Cosgrove (Aiden) talks to the magazine about his surprising return to Days of Our Lives.

Before Cosgrove completed his run on the show last year, he was already hearing Aiden could show up back in Salem. "I didn't believe it," says the actor. "You hear rumors all the time. Aiden's ending was pretty finite. He got shot in the chest and wrapped up in a body bag."

The popular actor was also aware that Executive Producer Ken Corday had told Digest previously that dead characters were staying dead. "Our captain said, 'When someone dies, they are dead,' Cosgrove shares. "I thought, 'Okay, I know my fate. Aiden was in a body bag.' "

Later, Cosgrove received a call from a DAYS producer. "I was asked if I would like to come back," he recounts. "I thought it was someone playing a joke on me [laughs].

Once he realized it was a serious offer, he wanted to know if Aiden was going to have a story. "I also asked if I would be coming back with a story," he recounts. "I was told, "Yes, you will be coming in with a story.' We didn't get into any details because they like to keep those kind of things quiet."

Once the deal was worked out, he returned to the set in November. "It was not long after the show's 50th anniversary," he notes.

Now that Cosgrove's second stint on the soap is underway, he's making plans to step up his social media game. "When I do get myself onto twitter, I'm going to say thank you to a lot of people, because there were viewers who were quite vocal that they were not happy with the way that Aiden and Hope's story ended," he says.

"I was really surprised by the fanbase's support. For a long time, people wondered if Aiden was good or bad. I've gotta say, it was really tough to play Aiden being in love with Hope when he was also making plans to kill her. You come into work, you do what you do and hope that people will like it. So I was very grateful to hear that people missed Aiden."
