The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the Drama Performer Pre-Nominations for the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards.
The process used to determine those chosen as Pre-Nominated performers follows:
An online judging ballot containing all entrants in each of four performer categories (Lead Actor and Actress and Supporting Actor and Actress) was sent to all registered, eligible peer judges. The ballot contained a randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation. Judges were required to view clips online containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top 10 performer choices in each category.
Ballots were submitted directly to Lutz & Carr, Inc., an independent accounting firm, who tabulated the results. The candidates below who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon screening round, scheduled to begin on February 20, 2017, which will determine both nominees and recipients. Please note that this release also contains the names of the entrants for the Younger Actor and Actress categories, who will proceed directly to the Blue Ribbon Round. Nominations will be announced on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, live on “The Talk” on CBS.

Wally Kurth: I Have Room for 'Bold and Beautiful' if They're Interested!
![]() |
Wally Kurth Courtesy: NBC/Chris Haston |
The actor tells Digest about his return to GH, "I have to say, it's very nice. It really is. You know, there's not many of us left. Us old vets that can bounce back. I think it says a lot about the fans who follow the show and who are loyal to the show. The Quartermaines are a core family and there's not that many of us left. I'm very happy to step back in as one of the Quartermaine characters and try to breathe some life into the Quartermaine mansion. When I walk back onstage, as far as I'm concerned, I'm never going to leave. I told Frank [Valentini, executive producer], 'Honestly, I won't leave unless you ask me to leave because I'm here to stay as long as I possibly can.'
Kurth believes he still has a future with DAYS, "This was told to me by Gary Tomlin [former head writer/co-executive producer] in 2009 when I first reappeared after 19 years: It was actually Dena's [Higley, co-head writer] idea to bring back Justin as an attorney. They needed a lawyer on the show, and she remembered me and remembered Justin and Adrienne (Judi Evans) and she must have liked me. So the fact that Dena's there, I think, bodes well for both Justin and Adrienne. She knows those characters and I think she has an affinity for them and now that she's working with Ryan [Quan, co-head writer] I have a feeling she's going to at least get Justin and Adrienne some storyline. That's my thought and I have a feeling that's probably going to happen."
The popular actor hopes to work on both shows as much as he can, "If the audience doesn't object, and the network doesn't object, I hope to do both characters as long as I can. I don't think that the audience minds seeing Wally Kurth more than once a day. It's not like I'm front burner on both shows. The shooting schedules are so wacky. I mean, I'm off for five weeks for Days of our Lives and all the hiatuses that General Hospital has? Honestly, I have room for Bold and Beautiful if they're interested!"

Daytime Icons Stephen Nichols and A. Martinez Reflect on the Success of Steve and Kayla and Cruz and Eden

Super Couples were all the rage in the 1980s, and who better to talk about successful couples than A. Martinez and Stephen Nichols! Steve and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Cruz and Eden (Marcy Walker) were magical together.
Martinez: Stephen and Mary Beth Evans [Kayla] have survived what’s largely perceived to be unsurvivable—playing out a romance on TV for 30 years. How do they still do it? You always hear stories of people who play lovers and how it so often hits the rocks and how they wind up not being able to tolerate each other off camera. With Marcy Walker [Eden on Santa Barbara], I remember being really concerned about how we could have all that intimacy on screen and not have it mess with us. And it did mess with us. We were lucky because we fought our way out of that, but a lot of actors don’t. It can eat you alive.
Nichols: Mary Beth and I have had our ups and downs, but there is such a deep level of trust between us. We’re not afraid to tell each other anything—or tell each other off—and it has helped us stay connected. When things are rocky with us and a scene just isn’t working, Mary Beth will say, “Look in my eyes. Look in my eyes.” And we’re instantly where we need to be. I know actors who’ve been partnered for years and have a very contentious relationship. I’d have to walk away from that. I would have to say, “I can’t do this job.”
Martinez: Cruz and Eden only happened because Santa Barbara wasn’t clicking with the audience. Everyone was looking for a solution and [executive producer] Jill Phelps thought it was worth taking a chance on us. They wrote three episodes for Marcy and me—some kind of situation where we were trapped together—and Jill said, “You’ve got three days. This is your shot. Make it work. You can make excuses that the writing is inconsistent, or that you don’t like the directors, or you can basically decide to succeed. Your choice.” And it worked.

Jordi Vilasuso Finally Arrives as Dario Hernandez on 'Days of our Lives'
![]() |
Jordi Vilasuso |
The actor tells Soap Opera Digest the role came about last summer when he was thinking about returning to daytime. According to Vilasuso, "Ken [Corday, executive producer] reached out and said they were [expanding]the Hernandez family."
Vilasuso then met with Corday, Co-Executive Producer Albert Alarr and Co-Head Writer Josh Griffith. He responded to the intelligence of the character and says, "Dario is also very passionate and outspoken. He has a short fuse. I was so ready and wanting to play this guy."
Vilasuso first worked with Eric Martsolf (Brady) and Marie Wilson (Summer), and Brady will encounter Dario working as a bartender in California.
The actor is slated to first appear on the Friday February 19 episode of Days of our Lives.

Blake Berris as Todd in Wrong Swipe |
Anna’s (Hutchison) had a tough time getting close to people ever since her father died five years ago and her relationship with her boyfriend ended. Having lost interest in dating, she focuses on school and taking care of her mom and sister, Sasha (Staples). With Anna’s best interest at heart, Sasha creates a profile for her on Swipe--a new dating app that matches users via GPS.
Though she is reluctant, Anna gives the app a try. Several potential suitors message her, but they all pale in comparison to handsome and charming Pete (Karner). Then Anna starts to get disturbing messages and notifications that a match is very close to her proximity when no one should be.
Becoming anxious and paranoid, she pushes Pete away. Not knowing who to trust, Anna is pitted against a stalker who looks to be a match from hell prepared to kill for love.
