Showtime Picks Up 'Ray Donovan' and 'Masters of Sex' for Fourth Seasons


In the middle of their critically acclaimed third years, including an Emmy nomination for Ray Donovan star Liev Schreiber, Showtime has announced that it will pick up both of its hit dramas, Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex for fourth seasons. The announcement was made by David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc. Both series will receive 12 one-hour episodes and will begin production in 2016.

"Both Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex are signature series for SHOWTIME," said Nevins. "They are emblematic of what Showtime stands for - quality, premium programming that you cannot find anywhere else on television. We're so proud to continue offering both series across all our platforms."

Judy Greer to Guest Star in 'Masters of Sex'

Judy Greer will join the third season of the critically-acclaimed drama Masters of Sex for one episode. Starring Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen and Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan as real-life pioneers of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson, Masters of Sex chronicles their unusual lives, romance and pop-culture trajectory. Masters and Johnson's research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine. Greer plays Alice Logan, the wife of Dan Logan (guest star Josh Charles), the perfume magnate who approaches Masters and Johnson about bottling the smell of sex. A recovering alcoholic and long-suffering spouse, Alice joins her husband and Masters and Johnson for a painful dinner in which agendas collide, truths are exposed and no relationship emerges in the state it entered.

Greer joins previously announced guest stars Beau Bridges, Maggie Grace, Josh Charles, Tate Donovan, Emily Kinney, Sarah Silverman and Allison Janney. Masters of Sex airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

Josh Charles 'Masters of Sex' in a Major Guest-Starring Role

Emmy-nominated actor Josh Charles will recur in a season-long arc on the third season of MASTERS OF SEX, which premieres July 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. Starring Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen and Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan as real-life pioneers of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson, MASTERS OF SEX chronicles their unusual lives, romance and pop-culture trajectory. Masters and Johnson's research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine. Best known to television audiences as Will Gardner on The Good Wife, Charles is set to play Daniel Logan, a self-made businessman working in the scent industry. In an attempt to bottle the smell of sex and market an aphrodisiac to the general public, Dan seeks out Masters and Johnson's expertise on desire. A charismatic salesman, Dan's involvement with Masters and Johnson becomes complicated.

Tonight on 'Masters of Sex': Johnson Tries to Treat a Woman on Her Own in 'Mirror Mirror'

The fascinating second season of Showtime's hit serial drama Masters Of Sex continues on Sunday, August 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

In the episode, "Mirror Mirror," Masters (Michael Sheen) privately treats a couple for infertility, without revealing his relationship to them. Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) realizes her work with Masters can be used to help people suffering from sexual dysfunction but quickly gets in over her head when she attempts to treat Barbara Sanderson on her own. Libby (Caitlin Fitzgerald) is unnerved after witnessing a hate crime that is then whitewashed by the police.

Showtime Renews 'Masters of Sex' and 'Ray Donovan' for Third Seasons


Hot off the continued critical and audience acclaim for the second seasons of Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex, Showtime is green lighting third seasons for both of its hit drama series. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc. Both series will receive 12 one-hour episode orders, and will begin production in early 2015.

"Both Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex are quintessentially Showtime: bold, provocative, premium television with production values at the top of the food chain," says Nevins. "These acclaimed shows are filled with complex and interesting characters and settings that will no doubt give audiences compelling television to invest in for seasons to come."

2014 Creative Arts Emmys: Complete List of Winners

The Television Academy tonight presented the 2014 Creative Arts Emmy® Awards on Saturday night (August 16, 2014) for programs and individual achievements at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. This first ceremony of the 66th Emmy Awards honored guest performers on television dramas and comedy series, as well as the many talented artists and craftspeople behind the scenes to create television excellence. Produced for the 20th year by Spike Jones, Jr., this year’s Creative Arts Awards featured an array of notable presenters, among them Jane Lynch, Tony Hale, Amy Schumer, Allison Janney, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum, Comedy Central's Key & Peele, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, Morgan Freeman, Tony Goldwyn, Aisha Tyler, Joe Manganiello and Carrie Preston.

Highlights included Jon Voight's moving posthumous presentation of the Academy’s prestigious Governors Award to casting icon, Marion Dougherty. Voight was one of Dougherty's discoveries.

The awards, as tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP, were distributed as follows:



This year’s Creative Arts telecast partner is FXM; a two-hour edited version of the ceremony will air Sunday, August 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with an encore at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FXM. The program will be streamed in its entirety as part of the Backstage LIVE! show on Emmys.com at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET on Monday, August 25.

Emmys in 26 other categories will be presented at the 66th Emmy Awards telecast on Monday, August 25, 2014, 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, on NBC.

Showtime Collaborates with Director Tatia Pilieva for Social Experiment 'Undress Me,' Inspired by the Acclaimed Series 'Masters of Sex'

In honor of the highly-anticipated second season of MASTERS OF SEX which premieres this Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT, SHOWTIME has teamed up with director Tatia Pilieva ("First Kiss") for her second social experiment short piece, titled "Undress Me." The video features 20 strangers, paired into couples, from a myriad of ethnic backgrounds, ages and sexual orientations as they meet for the first time, undress each other and get into bed. Structured similarly to the groundbreaking research by Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson in 1957, the black and white film celebrates intimacy, shedding light on human sexuality.
