Emmy Award-Winning Actress Linda Dano Vents About Kathy Griffin Hosting the Daytime Emmys

Actress Linda Dano, who won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Felicia Gallant on NBC soap opera Another World, recently spoke out on her Facebook page expressing her thoughts about Kathy Griffin hosting the Daytime Emmys on Sunday Night. Dano was not pleased with Griffin's less than classy commentary and the decision to hire her as host of the ceremony.

Check out what Dano had to say, in her own words, below about Kathy Griffin and this year's Daytime Emmy Awards.

I need to vent about Kathy Griffin and last night's Daytime Emmy Awards. Named the host by Malachy G. Wienges, Chairman of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences / why I don't know.

Clearly, the TV Academy wanted a buzz worthy host for their live stream-only show, and you can't get much better than filter-less Griffin. Oh, and she delivered. Her entire intro also had nothing to do with daytime TV

I don't know her and she doesn't know me...after last night, I don't care to know her!

She started the night by saying "Welcome to the shit show…this is your night…" Can't imagine anything less classy!

Her claim to fame is that she likes to offend people. Congratulations, mission accomplished.

The Daytime Community is a closely knit community of hard working, very professional, talented people who love entertaining their devoted fans.

I have had the honor to be recognized by The Academy and my fellow performers. I am offended to have someone like Ms. Griffin say things like "We’re making history! Oh god — shit! Guys, I’m sorry if my nipples fall out."

I was truly offended for my fellow members of the Daytime Community but when she repeated something about Susan Lucci that Sarah Michelle Geller told her in confidence (that probably never happened, Kathy Griffin crossed the line!

I won't repeat it here. Look it up if you want to see what she said.

When The Academy selects a host like Kathy Griffin, it's no wonder people have no respect for Daytime.

If you feel like I do, please let Mr. Wienges know. It's the only way The Academy will know that their experiment did not work.

Do you agree with the respected Dano? Do you think Griffin went too far? Share your thoughts in our Comments section below.

Daytime Emmy Awards: Will It Be a Classy Celebration or Another Opportunity To Tear Itself Down?

Daytime television ratings are on the rise. Not only have the four remaining broadcast TV soap operas made a comeback in the Nielsens, talk shows, court shows and game shows are all flexing their ratings muscles. This year is the perfect year for the Daytime Emmy Awards to throw a respectful celebration for those who work in Daytime TV. There are many deserving producers, directors, performers and other crew that shined brightly in 2013 and the Daytime Emmy ceremony on June 22, 2014, is their night to be celebrated, not just with clips of the nomoninated work but also with a ceremony that is respectful and dignified.

The ceremony will even include under-appreciated but brilliant talents like DeVanity creator Michael Caruso, nominated in the "Outstanding New Approaches – Drama Series" category.

Improved ratings, new technology (a live-stream to a global audience!) and new blood all make for a potentially wonderful celebration.

In 2011, the Daytime Emmy Awards hired a comedian turned game show host, Wayne Brady, to emcee the ceremony. After Brady disrespected recently canceled soap operas in his opening monologue, the audience booed, leading Brady to utter the worst possible comeback: "I didn't write this crap."

This year, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has hired Kathy Griffin to host the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Griffin is a hilarious performer who will garner the ceremony additional mainstream media attention. She's also a surprising choice after her controversial 2007 Primetime Emmy winning speech included the line, "Suck it, Jesus!"

She could be brilliant. Or this could be a trainwreck.

Kathy Griffin Named Host of Daytime Emmys

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced today that the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards will be hosted by comedian and two-time Emmy® Award winner Kathy Griffin. The program will be presented live to a national and global audience from the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, June 22.

When reached for comment Griffin said, “I am beyond thrilled to be hosting what I'm told is the most important television event of the year. Knowing that over 100 million people from every corner of the planet will be watching, I will try to keep my nerves at bay and deliver a great show. I can only hope that at the end of the evening, critics and fans alike will compare it to the experience they once had watching Neil Armstrong take man's first step on the moon. My only regret is knowing that this epic evening will distract millions of viewers from enjoying this year's World Cup. I apologize to FIFA.”
