Syfy Announces Premiere Date for 'Childhood's End,' Adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's Landmark Novel

Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End, one of the most-acclaimed science fiction novels of all time, will come to life in the first-ever adaptation beginning December 14 on Syfy. This six-hour television event from Syfy and Universal Cable Productions will air over three consecutive nights on Monday, December 14, Tuesday, December 15 and Wednesday, December 16 from 8-10PM (ET/PT).

Executive produced by award-winning producers Akiva Goldsman (Lone Survivor, A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) and Michael De Luca (Captain Phillips, Moneyball, The Social Network), the star-studded cast is led by Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Mike Vogel (Under the Dome), Daisy Betts (The Last Resort), Yael Stone (Orange is the New Black), Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Osy Ikhile (The Fear) and Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

Golden Globe nominee Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Charmed) has been added to the cast of Syfy's upcoming six-hour miniseries Childhood's End. McMahon will portray Rupert Boyce, an enigmatic American entrepreneur.

McMahon is well known for his roles in Charmed and the hugely successful Nip/Tuck. But do you remember his time on the Australian soap opera Home And Away or his stint on the dearly departed Another World?

Syfy Greenlights 'Childhood's End' as Six-Hour Miniseries

Syfy today announced that it is greenlighting one of science fiction's most beloved and influential novels, Arthur C. Clarke's classic "Childhood's End," as a six-hour miniseries premiering in 2015.

In making the announcement, Dave Howe, President, Syfy, said: "As we aggressively develop scripted programming over a diverse creative landscape, we want our content to reflect the greatest sci-fi stories from the past and the present. The powerful themes of Childhood's End, from the fearsome price of peace and prosperity, to the very question of what constitutes a human being, remain fascinating and timeless. This will be the most ambitious project for Syfy in many years."
