Days of our Lives star Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) lost control of his car on Route 84 in Kingsville Township early this morning, seriously injuring his passenger, Alyssa Tabit, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Star Beacon reports Smith was taken to Conneaut Medical Center for treatment. Tabit was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, where she is listed in critical condition.

Speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, the OSHP said.

UPDATE #1:
Molly Burnett, who is returning to Days of our Lives next month as Melanie Jones, posted an update on her Facebook page.

Just got off the phone with Freddie. He and Alyssa are OKAY.

They were in a serious car accident last night, but were able to receive medical help IMMEDIATELY.

Freddie was released from the hospital, and Alyssa will be in surgery for a few more hours. She was cognitive pre-surgery, and all of her tests were perfect. Both Freddie and Alyssa's families are heading there now, and they are in the best hands.
UPDATE #2:
Days of our Lives actor Guy Wilson tweeted the following: "Just got a text message from @freddiemsmith and he's doing ok. @AlyssaTabit has just come out of a successful surgery. Good news all around."
