Spike TV Developing 'Deep Web' Drama Series Inspired By Time Magazine Cover Story On The Notorious Silk Road Online Marketplace

Spike TV is partnering with prominent producer/director/writer Tony Krantz (Mulholland Drive, Felicity, Sports Night, 24) of Flame Ventures, and Flying Studio Pictures, the production partnership of the world renowned actor and critically-acclaimed, award winning filmmaking team Gary Oldman, and producer Douglas Urbanski, to develop an original series, Deep Web. Scott Gold (Under The Dome) will serve as Executive Producer and Writer.

This Spike original series, inspired by a recent Time Magazine cover story on the Silk Road online marketplace, is the incredible saga of an ambitious computer aficionado in Silicon Valley who, with the help of his friends, evolves into an internet underworld crime boss fueled by a web portal where one can buy anything - from a kidney to cocaine to a rocket-launcher.

Known for their motion pictures, this will mark a first time entry for Oldman/Urbanski as Executive Producers of a television series. "This is part of a long term strategy of spreading our creative wings into other platforms," said Urbanski.

"The opportunity to work on a first class project with Tony, and the dedication Spike has brought to the entire enterprise is exactly what Doug and I have been seeking, and frankly, one we could not pass up," said Oldman from London where he is currently filming.

"In this supremely competitive environment, we are thrilled to be the network to partner with Tony Krantz and filmmakers like Gary and Doug to bring this story to our ever-growing audience," said Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike TV. "This project speaks to the network's search for wholly distinctive and relevant ideas, ripped from today's headlines, that reflects our brand's evolvement."

Deep Web will be Executive Produced by Krantz, Oldman and Urbanski. Drew Comins, who originally sourced the TIME magazine article and EVP of Flame Ventures, will serve as Co-Executive Producer.

Deep Web is the story of a different American dream - one driven by the national economic crisis and a culture where anything goes in order to get rich and famous overnight. From the slums of Oakland to the start-up mecca of high-flying Silicon Valley, Deep Web is an entirely new crime series following an upstart tech genius who masterminds an online superhighway of illegal goods and services. As his empire grows beyond borders and government regulation, he becomes the one of the most wanted men on Earth.

Flying Studios Pictures is the production company partnership of long-term partners Gary Oldman and Douglas Urbanski. First Thoughts on Guy Wilson as the New Will Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Guy Wilson debuted as the new Will Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. "You're not gonna believe this!" That was actor Guy Wilson's first line in his debut as the new Will Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Well, believe it! Over the years many relative unknown thespians, who later turned out to be excellent actors, even Emmy winners, made their daytime soap opera debuts and looked like stiffs. This is a different medium, with a lot of dialogue to memorize, where getting it right on the first take is desired. It's understandable if a new actor in a daytime drama takes not just one, but several episodes to settle in. It's happened time and again so I give them a pass. Luckily, Wilson doesn't need one. He performed like a seasoned pro on Day One.
